Currency in Thailand

The Thai currency is the baht. Be aware that most of the word programs convert the baht into a warm bath. The baht is divided into 100 satang. The baht has notes of 1,000 (grey), 500 (purple), 100 (red), 50 (blue), and 20 (green). There are also coins of 25 satang, 50 satang, 1 baht, 2 baht, 5 baht and 10 baht. The 10 baht has the size and looks familiar to the Euro.
Thailand is very supportive with cashing money with all the major currency bills including Euros and dollars. Traveller's cheques can be exchanged at hotels, tourist shops, banks, shopping centers and money changers. Be aware that you receive a good rate usually at the banks, but bring your passport to avoid frustration. The exchange rates at the banks or authorized moneychangers are usually better than those at hotels and department stores.

Always place the bank notes in your wallet with the head on the notes up. Start with the highest note behind ending with the 20 baht bank note in the front gives you more prosperity. In some beliefs placing bank notes with the head down in the wallet let you lose your money. Maintaining a wallet is also crucial. As soon as holes appear in your wallet it is call to action to replace the wallet with a new one to minimize any future money loss.
Any amount may be brought into the country. Travellers leaving Thailand may take out no more than 50,000 Baht per person in Thai currency. When you go through the customs at the airports the ATM machines offer only exchanging services. Withdrawal money from an account is not possible. Take foreign currencies out is possible but no more than the amount stated in the customs declaration filled in on arrival.
